Back To School 101 Workshop

On Saturday, August 23 about 30 people attended the Back to School 101 Workshop hosted by Club 21 at Pasadena Church of the Nazarene.

Nancy Litteken, the primary speaker, shared her years of experience working with school districts both from the perspective of a parent and a Special Ed teacher.  She was joined by Anne Marie Gibbs, an inclusion specialist with twenty years of experience, and Jennifer Perkins, a former inclusion teacher.  Together they shared three guiding principles of making inclusion work: presumption of competence, presumption that full membership in the classroom is possible, and collaboration (not competition) between parents and teachers.  Multiple tools for both facilitating communication between parents and teachers and for classroom support were made available.

The afternoon ended with question and answer time where parents could ask other parents and educators their questions about getting ready fro school and making inclusion work.
